Appearances can be deceptive (extra point)

Nowadays we meet a lot of people that reflect this topic, that aren’t what they seem to be. At first when we meet someone we imagine a person but when we get to know their character we think that the person that we imagined doesn’t exist.

So we say that appearances can be deceptive.
When a person that you imagine is a good person and you trust her and afterwards this person disappoints you, you think that this person isn’t what you imagined and you are disappointed.

How you spend your free time¿? (extra-points)

Well, there are many options to spend your free time; you can choose one activity or another depending on what you.

I spend my free time riding a horse, it’s my favourite sport because I like horses a lot. At the weekend, I have my free time and on Saturday in the morning, I start the day riding a horse. I go to the riding school Aiguamolls from nine a.m. until 1 a.m or 6 p.m. depending if I have more free time or not because sometimes I have to study and I can’t go to the riding school all the day. I love riding a horse.
Now, I have a horse, he’s called Omar but I borrowed him. Because his owner is in France and she has a lot of work and she told me that I could teach a horse, and I was very happy!!! .Because Omar is progressing very well.

The way that I spend my free time is with horses.

Oral Presentation

BRITISH HUMOUR

The topics which we can find in the world of British humour are:
· Irony: Irony is the core of Humour, it consists of meaning the opposite to what we are saying. We can see a difference in the intonation and body language when irony has an aggressive intention it is called sarcasm but after we say it. Normally irony is written with exclamations to emphasize the irony.
Example: Charlie Chaplin: was a character who when he talked with irony in his films like City likes. This film represents a dramatic irony.
· Bullying and harsh sarcasm: the sarcasm is a language intended to mock, wound, or subject to contempt or ridicule, generally saying the opposite of what the statement really is.
Example:
- Blackadder , comedy TV series: this comedy was translated in Catalan “Escurçó” and it was a TV3 series, nowadays we can see it on 300. And this comedy we can find Mr Bean, a very important person in this world because he was a start.
- Tom Sharpe: he is a written and he has the ability to laugh at the absurdities at life and at oneself. His most important books are: The Wilt and The Grope. We can say that Grope is a book that he dedicated to the medial assistance in Catalonia.
· Smut and innuendo: it consists of sexual and scatological themes.
Example: Carry on: is a long-running series of low-budget British comedy films. They are an energetic mix of parody , farce and slapstick. And we can find British comedy postcard also.
· Disrespect to members of the establishment: it refers to disrespect to members of the establishment and authority.
Example: Not the Nine O’clock news: It originated in 1972 to 1982. This comedy series made the originals episodes and its moment that was the news at the time. We can emphasize the Mr Bean character and others.
· The absurd: is a genre of comedy that relies upon "a violation of causal reasoning," with events that are "logically inappropriate”. It’s absurd and surreal.
Example: Green Wing: an experimental sitcom that utilizes surrealism.
Monty Python: it was a British television comedy. For example Monty Python sketch “dead parrot” In this sketch, a man tries to make another man believe that a parrot is dead. Here is a transcript of this sketch.
· The macabre: consists of Black Humour, in which topics and events that are usually treated seriously are treated in a humorous way.
Example: Death at a funeral it’s a film that reflects black humour. Because very serious topics like death are shown with humour.
· The humour inherent in everyday life: The humour, not necessarily apparent to the participants, inherent in everyday life.
Example: The Prince of Belair it was a comedy series showing a family and their problems in everyday life (drugs, adolescents, ) with humour. The Simpsons
· The British Class system: consists of making fun of the situation in the class system.
· The embarrassment of social ineptitude: consists of the embarrassment of social ineptitude.

· The lovable rogue: consisted of making fun of love.
Example:The Likely Lads was a black and white British sitcom.
· Making fun of foreigners: Making fun of foreigners is especially common in television sitcoms and films of the 1970s.
Example: 'Allo 'Allo! is a British sitcom broadcast on BCC from 1982 to 1992. It was a serie comedy set during World War II. This series made fun of the French.
Conclusion: If we can’t find British humour on a television comedy series, can find it in magazines or postcards or on radio stations. We can see that there are many topics than we can find on television. The general conclusion is that the topics that are most successful are irony with Charlie Chaplin, the humour inherent everyday life with The Prince of Bel air and the Simpsons and the British class system and the embarrassment of social ineptitude with Mr. Bean. I said these topics because they are the topics that arrived in Europe and they also had success.
If we have enough time we can see a video of Mr. Bean.

Tom Sharpe (extra)

Well, I will talk about a written character called Tom Sharpe. I will explain this character because he is related with my topic of presentation Oral, British Humour. Tom Sharpe writes satire and sham. The people called him like the satire and sham. Sharpe has the ability to laugh at the absurdities at life and at oneself. So it explains his success with his books. His most important books are: the Wilt and Grope. We can say that Grope is a book that he dedicated to the medical assistance in Catalonia.

When he was small, he lived with his parents in England. Tom Sharpe likes to write and read. One of his aunts who was rich, paid for him to go to a boarding school and he learnt a lot. He stayed there until he was eighteen years old and for ten years his family didn’t go to visit him and he was very sad and now he is a solitary person. He married a French woman who was rich, but they broke up because Tom Sharpe dedicated all his time to his books. Afterwards he married again to an Englishwoman and they had two daughters and they lived in England.
But many years later, Tom Sharpe bought a house in Llafranc, Baix Empordà. Then Tom Sharpe moved to Catalonia and he fell in love with the landscape and the stillness. And he has lived alone in Catalonia, so he can write quietly and now he communicates with his family with phone mobile. He said when he was young he wrote a book very quickly, it took him a month to finish a book. But now, he takes more time. The other cause is he has lived in Catalonia because he admires the attention of doctor with their patients. He explains that if he didn’t live in Catalonia and he lived in England he would probably be dead by now because he told us that one day he had a heart attack and the Catalonian doctor visited him at 3 a.m and he related that in England the doctor wouldn’t visit him until morning. So we can appreciate the medical assistance in Catalonia more than in England.

We can imagine that he is a solitary character and he likes the solitude because he has lived it all his life. To us, he is a strange character. Apart from being alone we can suppose that he is a person that has enjoyed his writing career.

What are my goals?

Now, I will talk you about my objectives that I have at moment in my life. At the moment, I am studying second batxillerat Social. I have tried the Batxillerat Social because I like economy and business and I thought that would be better for me. I met my goals to do business last year and this. I like this and I think that it might be my new trade. To fulfill my goals, it is necessary that this year I study hard to get a good mark. The new selectivity information which we have is to do 5 obligatory exams the common subject plus one modality and after if you want you can go to increase the mark by doing exams of others modalities. But the problem is not this, but the modalities that we can do (the students of Batxillerat Social) in the exam like business, Art history, maths and geography only count 0.2 if you do the maths exam and the geography exam and if you do the business exam it only counts 0.1 and this I don’t understand because I find business more important as it is related more to the degree than the geography exam that counts more. But what I don’t understand at all is that if the students who are doing Batxillerat Scientific in the end decide to do Business Management and they do a biology exam and chemistry exam count more than business exam in selectivity and I believe that it doesn’t make sense. Because if someone can tell me what relation there is between biology with business, please tell me right now!!

In conclusion, I think that this system with the marks isn’t correct and so these reasons we have to study hard and push to get a good mark and the next year to do the degree.

New: Margall sees coherent Gabilondo's offer that consist on lengthen the education of obligation until eighteen years

This new explanation that Gabilondo, who is the minister of Eduction, offers that the obligation formation should get longer until eighteen years and Margall, who is the Managing Director of Education, thinks that he is very highly regarded this project. The goals that they want to fulfill are: to keep the pupils in the class a long time although they don’t like it. And the objective of LEC ( Catalan law of Education) is: to make up for the shortage from education.

I don’t agree with this offer to lengthen the obligations education of until eighteen. Because not all the people want to study or like to study and they want to work or to study a trade. Nowadays, in our educational situation most people don’t like to study and so it’s inconvenient for other people who want to learn because they upset the other pupils. So I think that, If Margall makes this law and in the end does it, the pupils, who don’t want to study , will upset the others. I believe that you can’t oblige somebody to study if he doesn’t want or like to because he doesn’t agree it and he will be uncomfortable and the teacher will waste the time and the student also. The important thing I believe is: to have a lot of willpower. For these reasons I think that the new law it not coherent.

EQUUS CATALONIA 2009!

The Equus consist of horses exhibitions, where it got a place in Girona (in Devesa) and it was celebrated this weekend on 10,11 and 12th October. There were different clay courts where it showed different showes. The horses rested in stables while they didn’t act. The show that you could find was: the throw, horseball, the corousel, the Spanish show with Spanish horses and others.

The Aiguamolls riding school that is where I go, participated every day. On Saturday and Sunday my friends went a Equus to jump and I didn’t go because I had a lot of homework and my parents didn’t let me, apart from this summer I just went in la Ruta de la Cerdanya all weekend , consist of jumping championship. And so I only went to Equus, on 12th October because I participated in Carousel, consist of exhibitions of Horses where we did figures and it was necessary to coordinate.

When we arrived in Equus, we had to unload the horses from the moving van, then we had to feed the horses and then prepared them warm up. Later, we entered the clay courts so the horses got used to the place and then we had time for lunch and in the end we prepared to do the original corousel in front of the jury. When we finished this, I think that it was good but my friends who went in behind, said that it was horrible because their horses were frightened. And finally we went to riding school to drop off the horses.

Film (THE NOTEBOOK- el diario de Noah-) (Your-say)

This Film is about the love between two teenagers and their problems caused by different social class. The boy called Noah and the girl called Allie, we met in an amusement park and Noah wanted to go otu with Allie. The next day we went out together and they fell in love, and the all summer they were happy and in love. When Allie’s parents just found out about Allie’s relationship they decided to go to New York and Allie would study in university, so they broke up their love. The parents decided it because they didn’t accept their love because the boy was from low class. At the end of summer Noah and Allie made a promise and they said that Noah will build their dream house next to the lake. When Allie went out, Noah wrote letters every day for one year but these letters Allie never received and she met another boy and they got engaged. This boy was upper class and Allie’s parents loved him a lot. One day Allie read the news and she saw Noah with her dream house and she decided to visit him. She broke up with the other boy because she loved Noah and they made a family in this house and they were happy. This story began when they were teenagers and ended when they were adult. When Allie was old she had a disease that she didn’t remember her life and Noah explained every day their love story and finally she started to remember, the film started this way and told all the story.

In this film we can analyze that it is a normal conflict in this time. Because the upper class family didn’t accept that their children fell in love with a person from a low class family. This story shows that nobody can choose love, anybody can’t control the love of another, you don’t have to choose the love that your parents want because love is free. Before in this time the people from upper class family didn’t marry or fall in love with a boy or girl from low class family because the family were looked down. Upper class family wanted a smart person, intelligent and rich. And it was what the family wanted for their daughter but she fell in love with person that didn’t have these conditions. I believe that Allie made a good decision to go with this person who she liked a lot. I think that it is better to follow your heart then to follow the best for family or for others people.

NEW! (Your-say)

MICHAEL JACKSON AND PATRICK SWAYZE WERE REMEMBERED IN EMMY 2009.

This article tells about the memory that these two artists created in this world of cinema. On 20th September Emmy 2009 was celebrated, it is a prize for television production that is created amusement, and it’s considered the same as an Oscar for films and a Grammy prize for music. When they celebrated the Emmy 2009, the most exciting moment was when they remembered the big stars that have died this year like: Michael Jackson, he was a good dancer and singer that the people called him “ king of pop”. He died on 26th July from a heart attack. Patrick Swayze, was a good actor, he died on 15th September from pancreas cancer. Paul Newman, was a good actor, he died on 26th September 2008 from lung cancer; Farrah Fawcett, was a good actress, she died on 25th July from colon cancer; and finally Natasha Richardson, was a good actress, she died on 19th March from serious injures. Their colleague would like to take this opportunity to tell you that they were the best actors and actresses and they paid homage to them.

In this article we can prove that these actors had a short life, because the majority died when they were 50-65 years old. And we can analyse that the big cause for their death was from cancer. I think that every day in the world there will be a lot of people that will die from cancer. Nowadays they are investigating a lot of types of cancer but the problem is that the doctors don’t have the solution for all the types of cancer and the results are negative. I believe that cancer is the worst dead that the person can have, because the person in the process of his disease is breaking up ( die very slowly) and after the illness they wish they were dead because they can see themselves dying.

* Tower of Hercules (Your-say)

When I was small, I travelled to Galicia with my parents and friend’s parents. When we arrived at the airport, we met a lot of famous people for example: Gisela (OT), Alaska, and Catalan characters, it was wonderful!!! My brother and I were very happy. Gisela went to Galicia too and she went to the same hotel as us.

In Galicia we visited a lot of places and it was very nice but the place that impressed me a lot was the tower of Hercules. Apart from that we could see it every day because the hotel which we were staying in was in front.

The sailors used the tower of Hercules to guide them since 2000 years ago. In this Tower there is a story related to Hercules. The story tells about the hero mythology light with Gerion because he was bad to his sister. The hero mythology won and he ordered to build the tower to bury under of foundations and he called Crunna, and this name is the origin of Corunya the city.

This is the old lighthouse of Spain and this tower is already the heritage of humanity. The tower of Hercules is the monument Galician admired or known by UNESCO behind of cathedral from Santiago (1985), the way (1993) and the wall from Lugo (2000).

It’s very nice, I recommended you visit it!!
